Almost Home Study approved!!
Tonight Adrian and I had our final meeting with the social worker putting together our home study. Within the next couple of weeks we should be home study approved!! Being home study approved means that we are one step closer to bringing home Baby Benton #3.
In order to adopt the fist step that a family must take is having a home study completed. A home study is done by a social worker or by the agency that you plan to adopt through. A home study is a gathering of many different documents, background checks, financial information, and questions about your family and individuals. Once the social worker gathers all of the information that they need they will compile a document. This document is the completed home study and what will be given the agencies, lawyers, ect. to show that we are officially ready to be shown situations and match with an expectant mother.
Now that we are so close to completing our home study it become even more important for us to focus on fundraising. If we are matched with a baby through an agency we will be expected to pay for the adoption up front. The fees could be from $20,000-$40,000 dollars. Once we are home study approved we will be able to apply for some grants. There are also no interest or low interest loansthat we can apply for. The government offers a tax credit to family who adopt. If we take out a loan this credit would help us to pay that off. It is our goal to not go into debt while adopting. This is why we are working so hard to fundraise and why we are so thankful for all of your support.
We have a few fundraising ideas that we working on getting together. The first fundraiser we are working on is a mini golf "scramble". We want to have an event that you can bring your whole family to. It is our hope that it will be a night of fun and maybe a little competition playing mini golf with your friends and family. We hope to also have a silent auction the night of the scramble. If you have something that you would like to donate toward the silent auction we would love to hear from you. Our other fundraiser idea is flamingo flocking. This is a really fun fundraiser where friends pay to have a flock of flamingos placed in someone's yard. The recipient of the flock can make a donation to have the flock moved to a new location. I did this before in high school and we had so much fun with it. Let me know what your favorite fundraising ideas are!!
We are continuing to sell t-shirts. We have a campaign going right now. If you are interested in ordering and would like to not pay shipping contact me or you can order one here. We also have our puzzle fundraiser continuing on. We have 252 piece puzzle for each $10 you donate your name will go on the back of a puzzle piece. The puzzle will be together and will go in the baby's room. You can donate to the puzzle here!
We ask that you continue to pray for our family as we prepare to take the next step in this adoption journey. We also ask that you pray for the expectant mother. This is most likely one of the hardest times that she has faced in her lifetime. While we are hoping to gain a child, she will be losing the opportunity to parent her child. Pray that she is supported by her family and friends. Pray that she is receiving the care that she needs. Pray that she feel heard and respected when she speaks with others about her decision. We thank you all for your prayers and your continued support. If you have any questions about the adoption process, please ask!
