Not So Perfect Time for a Run

Prior to three weeks ago I had no idea what 5:00am looked like. However, during the past three weeks I have become very familiar with it on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I don't really think that its a time that I want to get to know to well, but for now its the only time Lauren and I can run together. On Tuesdays we run on my side of town and on Thursdays we run on her side of town.

I'll say that Thursdays are my hardest day because I have to wake up early enough to make it over to her neck of the woods. As soon as my alarm goes off I begin making up excuses as to why I should call Lauren and tell her that I'm not coming. Eventually, though, I throw my legs onto the floor and begin to get ready for my run. I'm normally still praying that Lauren will text me and tell me not to come, but that hasn't happened yet either.

Once we get together we put the headphones on, turn on the GPS, give each other a quick lets do this, and begin. We normally start off with a brisk walk and work our way up to a run. I'll admit that at the beginning I envy every member of the households we pass where the lights are still off, I so badly want to still be curled up in my bed. Neither of us have ever been runners and so this has been a rather slow process for us. Normally, we pick a place to run to and make that our goal, if we can run farther than that we do it. We run the same paths so we are able to our process as we run past places where we used to have to stop. Once we reach this part of the run I am normally feeling better about being up so early running. I know that in the end it will pay off.

I have also begun to reflect on what I am really running for during my runs. I try not to think about my hamstring that is hurting, or how much farther I have to go for it to be over. I try to think of all of the refugees that I have come in contact with over the past 6 months. I try to think about their stories and about their struggles. It makes my struggle to run to the stop sign seem so much less significant. I want to do this for them. I want to raise this money for World Relief Nashville so that we can continue to provide them with the services that they need. I pray that you would consider giving to this cause by going to my fundraising page  Running for Hope. If you aren't comfortable with giving online then you can contact me. Thank you so much for all of your support!
