What a Mom
Sunday is Mother's Day and I thought that in honor of my mother I would dedicate a blog entry to her. I know that some of you will try to fight me on this, but I am convinced that my mother is the best mother around. I, just like every other girl in the world, went through the phase of not understanding my mother. This led to a number of fight on many occasions. I can remember vividly stomping up the stairs screaming at my mom that she was so mean and that she was ruining my life. I can now look back on those times and realize that my mom was not ruining my life, in fact she was trying to better my life. I now understand that in all that my mom does she is trying to do what she thinks is best for me, even when I don't understand.
I have now moved out on my own and I appreciate my mom even more. It is amazing the things that you take for granted when you live with your mom. There are those days when you are so tired and you don't want to cook something, and you realize mom isn't here to make dinner for me. Then when you do decide to cook and you have no idea what you are doing, and mom isn't in the next room to come and answer your questions. You get a stain on your clothes and you have no idea how to get it out, I can no longer just ask mom to take care of it. There are so many "big girl" things that I have been so used to my mom being there to do for me or at least coach me through, and now I have to do it on my own.
Even beyond the daily tasks that I have had to get used to doing, I have just simply missed my mom. I have always enjoyed being able to come home to my mom and tell her about my day. And while yes I can still call my mom, its just not the same. There is just something about being able to talk to my mom while she pays bills on the computer and I sit on the couch. Then there are those days when I just want a hug from my mom. Or I just want to be able to put my head in her lap and let her stroke my hair. These are the things that I miss about my mom while I am away. I take comfort in knowing that when I do go home she is there waiting for me, to give my hugs and to listen to my stories.
As I have gotten older my mom has become so much more than just my mom, she has truly become a friend. And she is the best kind of friend. She is a friend who I know will always be there for me. There will never be anything more important that me, except maybe my dad or Thomas, but you get the idea. She will always love me unconditionally no matter what mistakes I might make in my life. And when I do make a mistake she will be there to walk beside me and guide as I work through it.
I thought that it would be fun to make a list of 10 things that you may or may not know about my mom. So here you go!!
1. If you ever need something done and you can't seem to get people to cooperate with you, just call my mom. She is a sweet and loving woman, but when she wants something done, don't get in her way. When I was younger I would often wake up to my mom loudly speaking to someone on the other end ( she will deny that she ever yelled at them). And more often than not she would accomplish what she had set out to do, and many times even more.
2. My mom will eat tomatoes if they are cooked, but do not try and give her a tomato if it is not cooked!
3. She goes to the "Y" almost everyday of the week. I have yet to figure out if she actually works out while she is there or if she just socializes, she says she works out.
4. When I was in school my mom was a "stay at home mom", however, she was never at home! I'm not exactly sure what she was doing, but she sure was busy. I have always been very thankful that my mom did choose to stay at home with Thomas and I, and that she was able to be an active part of both our school and home life.
5. My mother's given name was Wanda Sue. My great-grandparents basically told my grandparents that they did not like that name and that they would not be calling my mom that. This is how she became Suzie.

6. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed when I was in the second grade. I know that I was young, but I cannot remember hearing my mom complain once. I have watched my mom reach out to those who are just beginning the battle and she has been able to help them through what is probably one of the most difficult times of their lives.

7. My mom is one of the most giving people that I know. I think that my mom would give the shirt right off her back if she felt that someone really needed it.
8. My mom is a Godly woman who seeks after Christ on a daily basis.
9. My mom is a gracious and humble woman who does not seek after recognition or acknowledgment, even though there are many occasions when she has deserved it. She just wants to serve and bless others because that is what she feels called to do.
10. My mom is a wonderful wife and mother. She puts her family before all else. I pray that one day I can be as wonderful as my mom has been as a wife and mother. She is truly a Proverbs 31 woman.
