Hello supporters!! First, I would like to thank you for coming to check out my fundraising page. Please, come back often as I will be updating this section often with my progress. I want you to feel as though you are a apart of this with me, without having to actually do the running! I especially want to keep you updated if you are financially supporting me, I want you to know that I am really working for your donation!!
I signed up for this race back before Christmas and I have to admit I just wasn't that motivated at that time. I mean come on who wants to think about exercising and eating right at Christmas time? Not this girl!!So that meant that after Christmas I really had to get on the ball. I began running on the treadmill occasionally. Then my lovely friend Lauren decided that she would also run with me. Lauren tends to be much more motivated than me, which meant that I now had an accountability partner.
On January 7th we had our first run with the Race/for refugees team. While almost everyone on the team says that they have no running experience I'm not sure that I believe it. Lauren and I started out looking pretty good. Five minutes in we couldn't see any of the team ahead of us. It took us a little longer than the rest of the team to complete the 3.0 miles, but we did it. At the end of the course the team was standing there waiting for us, which was very encouraging.
Lauren and I decided that we needed to do a little extra running. Due to the fact that both of us have "big girl" jobs that don't allow for us to have matching schedules the only time we could get together to run was 5:30 AM. For those of you who know me you know two things; I'm not a morning person AT ALL!!, and I am NOT a runner!! For the past two weeks Lauren and I have been meeting up at 5:30 AM to go for a run. Each time we get together we run a little more and a little faster. I am personally very proud of our progress. I'm not saying that its easy. When my alarm goes off at 5:00 I consider sending Lauren a text saying "I'm not coming, I'm going back to sleep", and I'm pretty sure she wouldn't fight me on it. However, I know that if I can just get my feet on the floor and out the door I am going to feel so much better about myself once I am out there. So while we both still have a long way to go, we are putting our best foot forward and working towards something that I don't think either of us ever imagined we would do, running 13.1 miles. Oh and you better believe after I do it I am going to put one of those stickers on the back of my car!!
I also have to let you know that the thing that keeps me going when I want to quit is my refugees. I know they really aren't mine, but each refugee that I have come in contact with during my 6 months at World Relief has captured my heart. I don't know each and every one's story, but I know enough to admire them and their struggle. They have overcome so much in their lifetime. If they can endure being persecuted, kicked out of their country, and threatened. Then I can run a few miles in their honor.
